Your first appointment

I will send you paperwork to complete before your first appointment.  You may want to check with your insurance company to determine if you have a deductible, what your copay is, and if pre-authorization is needed.  In most cases, you are responsible for obtaining pre-authorization.

The purpose of our first appointment is to learn as much as we can about your current problems.  I will complete a full assessment of your current symptoms as well as gather a detailed history of the problems you wish to address in therapy.  In the case of trauma, I typically do not ask for any detailed information about the traumatic events until much later in therapy as this can be very upsetting to re-live these events with someone you do not know well.

After the first session, we will determine a set of goals together to achieve in therapy.
